El viaje de una hora a Tiwanaku lo llevar\u00e1 en un viaje esc\u00e9nico a trav\u00e9s del Altiplano. Las ruinas de Tiwanaku son el sitio arqueol\u00f3gico precolombino m\u00e1s importante de Bolivia, tal vez incluso de Am\u00e9rica del Sur. Es considerada una de las civilizaciones m\u00e1s antiguas de la regi\u00f3n de los Andes (1300 a.C.-1200 d.C.). La fascinante cultura, la religi\u00f3n y los brillantes conocimientos arquitect\u00f3nicos y astron\u00f3micos existieron desde hace unos 3.000 a\u00f1os. Tiwanaku fue la ciudad m\u00e1s grande de su tiempo; seg\u00fan se asume ten\u00eda una poblaci\u00f3n de entre 20.000 y 120.000 personas. Las ruinas de Tiwanaku se encuentran a una distancia de 72 KM de la ciudad de La Paz. Como patrimonio cultural de la humanidad, las ruinas est\u00e1n protegidas por la UNESCO. Los aspectos m\u00e1s importantes son el Templo Kalasasaya, la Pir\u00e1mide de Akapana, la Puerta del Sol Intipunku y el templo semi subterr\u00e1neo. Adem\u00e1s de los ejemplos tradicionales de la arquitectura de Tiwanaku, monolitos gigantes y representaciones figurativas se encuentran diseminados por todo el complejo arqueol\u00f3gico.
