OKHE RUMI

It is an easy and relaxing half-day walk between the wonderful nature that borders the city, a full 15km route (7km on motorized and an 8km walk with 200m up and down) to enjoy the impressive panorama over Tupiza and the red of its red mountains. It is best to do it before noon (1:00 p.m.), when the sun crosses the zenith to the west.

At the top of the hill Okhe Rumi (gray rock) is made up of a narrow, 2km long plain that runs from north to south and is covered by a forest of giant columnar cacti that bloom in January and February.

You have to walk from the southern end (Mirador S) to see the panorama over the city in the Rio Tupiza valley, bordered by fiery red mountains on both sides. Then head north through the cactus forest particularly enjoying the extraordinary westward view of Cerro Palala.

Brief Description of the Area
Picturesque places are visited in a grand combination of multi-colored rock formations, rivers, valleys, streams and canyons. The area includes mountain ranges of north-south extension and altitudes that oscillate between 2,800 to 3,900 meters above sea level.
