Protecting an extension of land of approximately 34,000 ha in Madidi National park, found at 900 m.a.s.l, Sadiri Lodge is strategically placed on the Sadiri Mountain Rainforest. The Word S’hadiri in the original Tacana language means “place of rest” and it is true to its name. Located in the middle of the Amazon it has a pleasant climate, with few bees or mosquitoes to bother you, and with spectacular views that transports you  into a unique state of relaxation. To add to this you can wander on the trails and around the lodge with the possibility of sighting animals such as mammals, reptiles, spiders, amphibians and a world of multi-colored insects. There is a great diversity of birds with more than 430 species, such as the Military Macaw (Ara militaris), 9 species of owls including the Subtropical-pygmy-Owl, colorful tanagers such as the Paradise tanager, the endemic Yungas Tyrannulet (Phyllomyias weedeni), and the tiny Festive Coquette hummingbird amongst others. Sadiri Lodge can combine the interests of its guests to put together a custom program of activities.

Visitors could suggest what activities to do according to their individual interests and planning in coordination with our staff. Walks and routes are not subject to a strictly fixed itinerary.

4DAYS/3NIGHTS

Day 1: Rurrenabaque – Sadiri Lodge- Poroto Waiq’

You will be met in the Rurrenabaque airport * by one of our guides and a chauffeur. You will be taken to Sadiri Lodge’s office to fix some administrative issues and learn about the details of your upcoming trip**. We then take you to the town of San Buenaventura “Puerta del Madidi”, and to visit the Madidi National Park main office to register and pay the entrance fee for the protected area.

The trip, in 4×4 Ipsum vehicles, regularly takes approximately 2 hours, but stops at strategical spots along the route between San Buenaventura and Tumupasa can extend the journey for up to 3 hours. On route you will be able to observe some of the boreal or austral migrant birds (depending on the time of the year), and the Red-Bellied-Macaw (Ara manilata), or the possibility of sighting a sloth or tayra crossing the road.

During the travel you will be offered a small snack.

At your arrival to Sadi Lodge, you will be welcomed by our team who happy for your presence will offer you a delicious natural juice and will accommodate you in your private cabins with private bathroom and a gas heated shower, where as soon as you arrive you will have the chance to see a mahogany tree in its natural habitat.

Lunch will be served in the “Micuna Huasi” dining room with a spectacular view of the pristine forest.

In the afternoon, we take a walk down the “Poroto Waiq´u” trail, where with a bit of luck you might see brown capuchin monkeys and the Starred-Wood Quail (Odontophorus stellatus).

We return to the lodge for dinner. In the evening if you wish you will be able to share a moment with your Uchupiamona Hosts, and learn of their experiences and their tales and local traditions and of how their village San Jose de Uchupiamonas has lived in harmony with nature for over 400 years. You will also have the option of taking night walks to appreciate how life in the jungle changes and transforms during the hours of the night. There always exists the possibility to stay and enjoy a relaxed afternoon taking in the view from our observation-platform of humming birds .There will be a snack at your disposal in the dining room.

*Depending on the hour of your arrival, we will coordinate the departure and return journey for the visitors.
** Make a photocopy of your Passport, and receive information at the office on the acquisition of your entrance to Madidi National Park.


Day 2: Sadiri Lodge- Sambu- Camino milenario

Buffet breakfast in the dining room at the time previously arranged by our visitors, where you will be able to enjoy a delicious local espresso coffee distilled in the indigenous way still prevalent in the village of San Jose de Uchupiamonas, whilst watching birds from the platform.

Later we have a 3 hour walk down the “Sambu” trail, where you can see the Military- Macaw (Ara militaris), the Solitary Eagle (Haliaetus solitarius), the Striated Antbird (Drymophila devillei), and always the possibility of seeing spider monkeys, and/or tamarin monkeys who, curious of your presence, could be watching you. With a bit more luck you could encounter a tapir, or see mammal tracks, and observe the gigantic trees that speak of the antiquity of the forest. We arrive to the natural Wairapata observatory to enjoy the panoramic view of the Sadiri hillside, appreciate the coloring of the forest by the flowers and trees and enjoy the abundance of bird songs.

From the observatory you can watch species of birds in flight and view the horizon of the territory that is protected by the existence of Sadiri lodge, and with your visit you contribute to its preservation. This would be the moment we recommend you take pictures.

Return for lunch in the dining room “Micuna Huasi”.

In the afternoon, after a short rest, you will walk on the “Milenario” trail where you can see the White- crested Spadebill (Platyrinchusplatyrhynchos) and White- bellied Pygmy- Tyrant (Myiornisalbiventris). During the walk you will discover the wonders of medicinal plants and trees that tell the age of the forest.

The guide will share his knowledge of the jungle and on the abundance of plant life that are used for years by Uchupiamonas people as natural medicine, as well as stories of the trail that was traveled by their ancestors.

After a walk of approximately 40 min you will arrive at the “Wabudajaida” stream. The guide will share with you ancestral stories about the meaning of the name of the stream and his knowledge about the jungle and the abundance of plant life that are used for years by the Josesanos to make ancestral tools. You will get to a natural waterfall, where you can enjoy bathing in the crystal clear waters of a natural pool in the middle of the jungle. Throughout the walk you will have the opportunity to observe birds. Arriving at the Pishaqui viewpoint you can see the hill Wabudajaida and enjoy a spectacular view. It is also time for you to take souvenir photographs.

Return to the lodge for dinner. In the evening, according to the visitor´s desires, you can share with our guide and local team a talk about the uses, customs, and rituals of the indigenous Uchupiamonas or wander in search of owls or animals.


Day 3: Sadiri Lodge- Yariapo- Parabal

Buffet breakfast in the dining room. This day we have the option of descending down the “Camino Ecológico” of San José de Uchupiamonas until we reach Yariapo stream, you will have the chance to enjoy a dip in these fresh water streams, if you wish. This track into the inside of the Madidi National park will give you the possibility of seeing White-lipped peccary, capuchin monkeys and other mammals, and to enjoy the abundance and diversity of the birds that live at a lower altitude as large or small mixed flocks.

The guide will share with you the ancestral stories of the meanings of the streams and their knowledge of the jungle and the abundance of the plant life that has been used for centuries by the Uchupiamonas to make ancestral tools and also their techniques and methods of ancestral fishing.

For a complete experience, we have the option to make this excursion with a “tapeque” (food to eat in the field), and have the chance to enjoy your lunch at the shore of a stream in the indigenous Uchupiamona style.

The other option is to return for lunch to the “Micuna Huasi” dining room, to enjoy a delicious lunch in the freshness of our “Micuna Huasi” dining room.

In the afternoon, after a short break, we will venture to visit lower lands in our 4×4 ipsum cars. The visit to the “Parabal”, will give you greater chances to see bigger mammals such as tyras, snakes, squirrel monkeys and also the new species of monkey recently discovered in Madidi Park, the Titi Monkey (Callicebus aureipalatti).

On this trip you can also see a variety of macaws and parrots, for example the Scarlet Macaw (Ara Macao) and the Red-bellied Macaw (Orthopsittaca manilatus).

Return to the lodge for dinner. At night you may walk around in search of terrestrial animals and nocturnal monkeys.


Day 4: Sadiri Lodge –Cakiawaca- Rurrenabaque

Buffet breakfast. A three hour walk down the “Cakiawaca” trail down the edge of the hill heading towards the north of the Madidi National Park, where you might sight the endemic Yungas Tyrannulet (Phyllomyias weedeni), the Razor- billed Curassow (Mitu tuberosum) with the possibility of seeing tapirs and surprise encounters with rarer animals.

After approximately another 2 hours of walking you will arrive at a place from where you can see the sacred mountain of Kakiawaka, where the guide will tell you the legend of this mountain.

Return to the lodge to have lunch in the dining room at 12.00 hrs. After lunch we return to Rurrenabaque at 13:30 hrs. During the trip you may encounter some of the boreal or austral migrants (depending on the time of year) and the Red-Bellied Macaw (Orthopsittaca-Ara-manilata).

Arrival to Rurrenabaque at 16:00 hrs and transport to the airport for the visitors that have a flight.

NOTICE

If you have to take a flight leaving that same day, it may be necessary for you to eat lunch earlier, or leave after lunch, depending on the time of your flight. Make sure to inform the team in Rurrenabaque.
