At 9.00 am. Transfer to the Port of Puno. You will visit the incredible Lake Titicaca, situated some 3800m above sea level and covering an area of over 8000 square kilometers. The floating islands of UROS are located inside the bay of Lake Titicaca only 14 Km. (about 9 miles) away from the city (20 to 30 minutes of navigation time). You’ll begin your tour by visiting the fascinating Uros islands, home to the descendants of the pre-Inca Urus people, who continue to live on the floating islands. It is thought that they may have fled to the islands to escape hostile tribes, including the Incas. These islands are made from tortora rushes, as are the houses on them and the residents’ boats. Part of the tortora can even be eaten! which are constructed by totoro reeds that grow around the lake. It is said that, when seen from the sky, the lake looks like a Puma hunting a rabbit. Uros is comprised of about 87 islands, but the total number varies. The people of the Uros Islands who predate the Incas speak the Aymara language. Tours are restricted to a subset of the islands, where the people are consequently very used to tourism. Return to Puno, arrival at 12.15 pm and get transferred to your Hotel.
