DAY 1
Arrival – Transfer to Inotawa Lodge – Night Walk
Upon arrival at the airport, you will be greeted by our staff and transferred to our meeting point.
We then travel approximately one hour to Puerto Nuevo, in the Infierno Native Community. Along the way, you can observe different types of forest, traditional banana and citrus plantations, pasturelands for livestock, and ravines.
In Puerto Nuevo, we board our boat and begin a one-and-a-half-hour journey along the Tambopata River. During the trip, lunch is served, consisting of vegetarian chaufa rice wrapped in bijao leaf, accompanied by fruit, cookies, and a bottle of water.
We enter the Buffer Zone of the Tambopata National Reserve, within Bahuaja Sonene National Park. Along the way, you can admire riverside flora, including cane fields, Cecropia trees, and figs, as well as riverine wildlife: birds such as oropendolas with their hanging nests, herons, and flying species like macaws and toucans. Mammals such as capybaras and reptiles resting along the riverbanks, including caimans and turtles, can also be observed.
Arrival at Inotawa Lodge
Upon arrival at INOTAWA, our guide will provide instructions to make the most of your stay and show you the different areas of the lodge and your room locations.
In the afternoon, we set out with the guide for a walk through the lodge’s habitat, observing the surrounding flora and fauna, including trogons, partridges, guans, and iconic trees such as shihuahuacos, lupunas, ceibas, and almendrillos.
At dusk, insects and arthropods emerge, including tarantulas and various frog species, creating an authentic tropical concert.
After dinner, the guide gives a descriptive talk about the activities planned for the program.
Day 2: La Torre Clay Lick + tres chimbadas lake
COLPA LA TORRE
Very early in the morning, we have the opportunity to take a 10-minute boat ride to Colpa La Torre, a cliff 4 meters high and 20 meters long, which contains clay deposits essential for the diet of macaws, parrots, parakeets, and occasionally some mammals such as deer, capybaras, squirrels, etc.
During the activity, it is important to follow the instructions provided by the guide the night before.

Breakfast
After a short rest, we travel 15 minutes downstream by boat and begin a 45-minute hike to Tres Chimbadas Lake.
TRES CHIMBADAS LAKE AND PIRANHA FISHING
Just 15 minutes by boat from INOTAWA plus a 45-minute walk along the trail crossing the ecotourism concession of the Infierno Native Community, we reach a water mirror characteristic of the Peruvian Amazon: Tres Chimbadas Lake.
Upon entering the lake, we pass through the Infierno Community checkpoint, as they are responsible for guarding and maintaining the area thanks to tourism-generated income.
At the lake, we board a traditional rowed catamaran to navigate around the water following the route indicated by the guide. Along the way, we can observe the lake’s fauna and vegetation, including birds such as shanshos, whistling ducks, herons, and kingfishers, as well as some reptiles and mammals, especially the highly sought-after river otters, whose family lives in the area and is frequently seen. Demonstration piranha fishing, with catch-and-release, is also an option.
After the activity, we return to the lodge for lunch.

CHACRA
In the area, traditional agriculture is practiced, providing a great opportunity to recognize various exotic fruits of the Amazon, such as cupuaçu, arazá, pijuayo, cassava, pineapple, as well as spices like palillo and sacha culantro, and medicinal plants such as piñón, caña caña, and piri piri, which are commonly used by the local community.
The fields in the chacras also include open areas with papaya and banana plantations.
Optional activities: wildlife track recording, boat ride, and swimming at the river beach.
Dinner
HIKE TO LAGO COCOCOCHA – VIEWPOINT – NIGHT BOAT RIDE
5:00 am – Snack
Coffee, herbal tea, fruit, and cookies.
5:30 am – Departure to Lago Cocococha
We depart at 5:30 am, passing the La Torre Checkpoint, to begin our hike to Lago Cocococha. During the walk, a snack (fruit, cookies, and water) will be provided during a short break.
This hike lasts approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes (one way) and is particularly interesting as we pass through different types of forest containing important plant species for the biodiversity of Madre de Dios, such as shiringa and Brazil nuts. Lago Cocococha, located within the Tambopata National Reserve, covers an area of 60 hectares and is surrounded by aguajales, lowlands, and elevated terrain. This creates a highly biodiverse ecosystem. Combined with minimal human intervention, the area serves as an important habitat for feeding and reproduction of several threatened and emblematic Amazon species, including macaws, black caimans, and river otters.
After the hike, we return to INOTAWA for lunch.
Afternoon – Viewpoint
After a short rest, we head to the viewpoint, located 15 minutes upstream. Here, we can observe the sunset over the Tambopata River, listening to the sounds of animals and birds returning to their nests and burrows. At the same time, the movements and sounds of nocturnal animals preparing for their activities become apparent.
Night Boat Ride
On the way back to the lodge, we take a night boat ride. At dusk, we enjoy the sounds of the night, occasional storms, and Southern Hemisphere constellations such as Scorpius and the Southern Cross. A spotlight is used on the boat to observe any nocturnal activity of caimans, capybaras, and nightjars along the riverbanks and meanders of the Tambopata River.
Dinner
After dinner, there is a presentation of the camera trap images.
