Start: 8:00 am
Our tour will start with an pick-up from your accommodation in Cusco at 8:00 am. We will drive for 3 hours passing through many colorful colonial towns.
We will drive along the Salcca Valley. On the way, you will enjoy a nice view over the mountains as we follow a small river to get to the starting point of the hike (4700m / 15,419ft). The view at the snow-capped Ausangate mountain is breath-taking. Once we are on the top of our view point, we will have the Vilcanote Mountain range in front of us.
We will then start our hike and walk for 45 minutes to 1 hour (1km) to our viewpoint (4,900m / 16,076ft.).
From there, we will have the most unique views of Ausangate (highest snow-capped mountain of Cusco 6375m / 20915ft) and of the three rainbow mountains. As this is an alternative route to the well-known Vinicunca, you will be able to enjoy the views without crowds of tourists, to take magnificent photos and to remember forever the stunning views.
After taking the photos and appreciating the view, and appreciating the view, we will enjoy our lunch (box lunch) in the middle of nature, observing the landscape.
We then return to our bus, and continue our journey in our private tourist transport. We go to a hotel with basic but good services, where we will have time to rest. Here we will have dinner and breakfast.
Day 2: Combapata – WaqraPukara – Cusco
In the morning, after we having our breakfast, we will continue our trip in our private tourist transport passing the Pomacanchi lagoon to the place called Punta Carretera. Here, we will have ten minutes to stretch, organize our things, and make any final preparations for our trek. We will walk across gently rolling terrain for about two hours, observing gorgeous landscapes, studded with small glacial and lakes along the way.
Once we arrive at the Waqra Pukara Overlook, we will pause briefly to take our first photos of this incredible fortress perched on the edge of a canyon. We will then descend for about forty minutes along a steep, cliffside path into the site itself, while the Apurimac River runs swiftly below. We will explore the ruins for approximately an hour and a half, climbing through the remains of the temple, taking photos against the incredible canyon scenery, and resting on clifftops in the shadows of the stone walls.
When we are ready, we will begin the ascent back the way we came. We will reach the car after about three hours of trekking, and return to Cusco at approximately 4:00 pm.
