Huaraz: It is the capital of Ancash district. Here the Cordillera Blanca shows a beautiful range of snow-capped mountains. This is also the most popular hiking area in South America. The Cordillera is 120 km long and has the largest concentration of glaciers in the world. It is located in the tropical zone, has twenty peaks of more than 6000 m and Huascaran (6768 m) is the highest mountain in Peru. Visitors to Peru are amazed by a landscape of deep contrasts with a backdrop of snowy mountains. There are numerous tourist excursions in Callejon de Huaylas / Llanganuco / the ruins of Chavin, glacier Pastoruri. But Huaraz is also a perfect place to do some trekking.

Best Season Recommendations
The best time is from mid-April to the end of September or the beginning of October. April, May, and June are the best months for flower and green landscape lovers. July through August are the best months for blue skies and also a great time for photographers (warm colors and clear blue skies are great!). From September to April you get a mixed sunny and beautiful cloudy landscape
(if you arrive in the morning you can independently visit the city and visit the lively market and in the afternoon you can take the local minibus to the ruins of Willkawain, these are from the Huari empire, up you have a beautiful view over Huaraz and surroundings. From here you walk down about 2 ½ hours to Monterrey, from where you can take the local bus to Huaraz.)

Day 2 Llanganuco full day
Departing from Huaraz around 9:00 AM, you will drive north into Callejon de Huaylas (Callejon Valley) with the first stop in Carhuaz where you will visit the picturesque main square and church. Carhuaz is also known for its homemade ice cream made from fruits and liquors.
Yungay was badly hit by the 1970 earthquake with an avalanche from Mt Huascarán burying the city. This site is now a memorial known as Campo Santo (holy land) that you will visit next.
Ascending to the Quebrada Llanganuco, you enter the Huascarán National Park, and shortly after the entrance you reach the incredible turquoise Lake of Chinancocha. There you have the option to take a little walk along the southwestern shore of the lake and take some photos. Via Yungay we descend again to Callejon de Huaylas and drive further north to Caraz. On the way, there is an opportunity to have lunch (not included). In Caraz you will visit the main square and the church, you will also try the sweet and delicious Manjar Blanco (made from condensed milk). For those who just want to enjoy the craftsmanship and/or buy some souvenirs, there will be a stop at Tarica on the way back to Huaraz, which is known for its arts and crafts, then round off your day around 7 pm. NOTE 1 The Llanganuco Lakes are at an altitude of 3800 meters and acclimatization is recommended beforehand.
NOTE 2 The roads from Yungay to the lakes of Llanganuco in the Huascarán National Park are unpaved roads and some parts of this road can be bumpy, in addition to winding sections in the ascent/descent to and from the lakes.
You will be picked up from your hostel/hotel at 9:00 AM. You will head south from Huaraz and then east to the Andean peaks where you will stop at Querococha Lake (3,980m) with some beautiful mountain panoramas. With a length of 2.43 km, one of the largest lakes in the Cordillera Blanca, and close to the Cahuish Tunnel (4,516 m) through which you drive and cross the Andes to Callejon de Conchucos.
The road descends to Chavin and meanders through several villages and a patchwork of agricultural areas. The archaeological site of Chavin de Huantar (3,180 m) dates back to before 1,200 BC UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1985. This is where you start your most important history lessons of the day – be prepared to be amazed at how advanced this civilization was. There are many corridors, one of which houses the main deity of the Chavín people, “Lanzon” of 4.53 Mt and the famous stone heads
You can enjoy lunch (not included) at one of the restaurants in Chavin village. Energized again, head to the Museum of Chavin de Huantar, where most of the archaeological site’s relics are on display. This will round off a very full and interesting day as you return to Huaraz on the other side of the Andes. You will be back in Huaraz around 7:00 PM. Hotel Huaraz
Day 4 LAGUNA PARON
This tour starts around 8:00 am from Huaraz, a van will pick you up from your accommodation then drive 40 minutes to Carhuaz town where there is a stop to buy water and snacks for the day, from here you can enjoy the view of the mountains already. The tour continues to Caraz, from here it climbs through agricultural fields and typical Andean villages. Before arriving at the lake, make a short stop at the Parón control to pay for the entrance tickets. It is a total of 3 hours’ drive to the Parón lagoon at 4200m. Once there you can enjoy the scenery and the views. You can take a short walk to Parón’s viewpoint to have fantastic views of the lake and the surrounding mountains. The trail has a steep climb with the last rocky section reaching 4300 meters. After descending to Lake Parón, you can take a boat trip (surcharge) or simply enjoy the view of the lake. At 2:00 PM we leave, 3 hours back to Huaraz, end of the tour around 6:00 PM.
Note The road from Caraz to Laguna Parón in the Huascarán National Park is an unpaved road and some parts of this road can be bumpy, in addition to winding parts of the climb/descent to and from the lake.
Day 5 Pastoruri full day
A private transfer will pick you up from your hostel/hotel at 9:00 AM from where you will drive south down Callejon de Huaylas to the Recuay area. After drinking some Coca tea (optional) to prepare for the altitude, the route heads east towards the Cordillera Blanca through the Pachacoto Canyon.
On the way, you will have some interesting stops such as Patococha (Duck Lake) with spectacular scenery, the carbonated water (not drinkable) of Pumapampa, the Puya Raimondi plants which are also the world’s largest bromeliads (pineapple family) and can reach up to 10m in height. The springs of Pumapashimin are amazing and their colors change according to the brightness of the sun, also known as the spring of the seven colors, where farmers believe the rainbow was born.
At the glacier parking lot (4,867 m), there is a 30-45-minute hike (one way) to reach the retreating Pastoruri Glacier at 5,100 m altitude, where you can see firsthand the effects of climate change. Departing from the glacier, there will be a stop for a late lunch, around 3:00 PM or 4:00 PM. Return to Huaraz at around 5:30 PM. Hotel in Huaraz
In the evening transfer to the bus station where you take the night bus to Trujillo or Lima Or optionally 1 extra night in Huaraz to take the day bus to Lima the next morning
