Peru’s oldest small city was founded in 1538 and one of the few that still maintains its noble air and Spanish influence. Chachapoya is located in north-east Peru, at an altitude of 2,335 meters above sea level. Its name comes from the native word Chachapoyacuno, which means “forest or mountain of mist” also “People of the Clouds”. The city is now being rediscovered as an important archaeological complex since there are some 500 sites in the area belongs to the Chachapoyas culture, including tombs, sarcophagi, fortresses, isolated towers, roads, rock carvings and paintings, textiles, ceramics, and other remains. Chachapoya is the starting point for the trip to Kuelap, found near the village of Tingo. Also Karajia and Gocta waterfall “771 meters” are worth a visit.

Day 1: Chachapoyas
You arrive early in Chachapoyas and go to your hotel, today you can relax in this border jungle town and walk around to surrounded viewpoints, hotel Chachapoyas. Chachapoyas is 2334 m.a.s.l. with average annual temperatures daytime 21 ° C and nighttime 12 ° C. Due to climate change, the climate in the Amazon region is very variable. We currently receive visitors throughout the year, with the most recommended months from June to November. Semi-Dry season: October to December. Rainy Season: January to May. You will spend the night in Chachapoyas.
Day 2: Excursion to Karajia and Quiocta Cave
8:30 AM Pick up from your hotel heading to the town of Lamud (1 hour by car). Continue to the Quiocta cave, where there is a 5-minute walk to the entrance of the cave. The tour in the cave takes approx 1.5 hours. There are cave paintings, usually shapeless, as well as animal and human bones at the cave entrance. The first cave formations are seen nearly 300 meters from the mouth of the cave, including stalagmites, stalactites, flowstone, columns. After the tour, we return to the town of Lamud for Lunch. After lunch, the trip continues for another hour by car to the community of Cruzpata. From here you walk 40 minutes to reach the archaeological site of Karajía,1000-year-old tombs placed at the top of a cliff. Each sarcophagus stands almost 2 meters tall, are made of mud.
The grouping of Sarcophagi can be seen about 25 meters away, and are human burials considered by the UNWTO to be unique in the world. After detailed information and explanations from your guide, we begin the walk back to our transport vehicle to return to the city of Chachapoyas.

Day 3: Kuelap
This morning we start our next adventure at 8:30 a.m. we depart for the town of Nuevo Tingo (one hour by car). We drive thru villages and climb up to the amazing pré – We will continue our tour by Cable Car to the tourist stop, from where we will walk 30 minutes to reach the fortified citadel of KUELAP. Inca Ruins of “KUELAP”, situated at 3000 meters and discovered in 1843. A major archaeological site built by the Chachapoyas. It is a massive stone structure located at the top of a 3000-meter-tall mountain. It is located on the left bank of the Uctubamba River in the Province of Luya. It covers 450 hectares and consists of more than 500 circular houses and other buildings surrounded by finely worked stone walls, some of which rise to 30 meters high. Seen from above, the city has the shape of a bird’s wing. Experts place its construction with the golden age of the Chachapoyas culture. In their native language, Kuelap means “cold place”, and while this site is in the rainforest, it enjoys a temperate climate, dry during the day with extreme drops in temperature at night. Comparing Kuelap with Peru’s most famous destination, Machu Picchu, and we can say that Kuelap was more impressive because of the lack of visitors. Day 4: Revash and Leymebamba Museum
8.00 AM Pick up from the hotel, departing for the traditional town of San Bartolo (2 hours by car). From here it is a 40-minute walk to reach the lookout to see the Revash mausoleums set among the landscape, after which we return to the town of San Bartolo.
Transfer to the town of Leymebamba (1.5 hours) by car, where we will have lunch. After lunch we go to the Museum of the Mummies, featuring approx. 2,500 archaeological pieces, including 219 Mummies found originally in the area of Laguna de Los Condors (Lake of the Condors) and the largest registered Quipus collection in Peru. Return to Chachapoyas

Day 5: Gocta Falls+ transfer out
Departure 9.00 in the morning we go to the community of Cocachimba, where our guided walk to one of the highest waterfalls in the world will begin. The world’s third-largest after Angel Falls in Venezuela. You will have to walk 5 kilometers to reach the site of the waterfall on a trail that cuts through thick vegetation, but the effort is well worth it for you are rewarded with a wonder of nature set within a lovely locality. The Gocta Falls have been known in the area for centuries but it was not until 2002 that a German engineer saw the size of the Gocta Falls and measured that they could easily fall into the top ten highest falls on earth. The falls are 771 meters high. The falls are divided into two sections with the tallest section measuring 540 meters. The falls are located in an area about 2800 meters above sea-level which is known for its virgin rain forest. The region is not widely traveled and one of the true unknown gems Peru has to offer to outdoor enthusiasts.
We will enjoy the landscape and the dense forest typical of the high jungle, habitat of the Cock of the Rock, Hummingbirds, and the Yellow-tailed Choro Monkey among other birds and local animals. The duration of the walk is approximately 5 hours, round trip.
Upon our return to the community of Cocachimba, we board our transport and return to the city of Chachapoyas.,
